Zen works best when applied to your entire Confluence site. When implemented across an entire site, Zen manages screens (like the search results and login) that reside outside a given space. A Zen site also gives users the expectation of common behavior across all spaces. Lastly, Zen's design and navigation features create a more user-friendly landing space than the Confluence Dashboard. However, in some cases, you may want to use Zen only on a subset of spaces.

To apply Zen at the site level, complete the following steps.

  1. From the Configuration menu, select Admin Console.
  2. If necessary, log into the administrator account.
  3. The Administration Console page opens.
  4. From the Look and Feel section, select Themes.
  5. The Site Theme page opens.
  6. Select the Zen Foundation radio button.
  7. Click the Confirm button.

Individual Space Themes

Once you apply Zen site-wide, individual spaces can still choose a different theme.

Default Confluence Theme

The default Confluence theme will not automatically show as an option once you apply Zen site-wide. To resolve this issue, first download and install the Original Theme Plugin.

  1. Decide on a landing space–an existing or new space. (Make sure to note the space key.)
  2. From the Configuration menu, select Admin Console.
  3. The Administration Console page opens.
  4. From the Configuration section, select General Configuration.
  5. The General Configuration page opens.
  6. Click the Edit button at the bottom of the page.
  7. Set the Site Homepage to the landing page you selected from step 1.
  8. If necessary, adjust the Site Title. (This defines the text Zen uses for the first anchor in the bread crumbs.)
  9. Double-check that the Server Base URL matches the URL used to access the site.
  10. Press the Save button.
